BRITANNIA HEATEX - AIR BLAST PRODUCTS

The Dri-Seal range of products has been developed as a cost-effective means to enhance the longevity of both shell & tube and air-blast heat exchangers. Our product range currently comprises of:-

Dri-Seal Jiffi-Plug - the safest and most convenient method of plugging failed heat exchanger tubes

Dri-Seal Façade Tubeplate Protection System - for cost effective life extension of eroded or corroded heat exchanger tubeplates.

Dri-Seal Tube Insert - protect the ends of heat exchanger tubes from turbulence induced erosion

Dri-Seal Jiffi-Plug Tube Sealing System

The Dri-Seal Jiffi-Plug is our latest patented development and offers a new and inexpensive way of sealing failed heat exchanger tubes safely and with the minimum of fuss.

The Dri-Seal Jiffi-Plug has been developed be the safest and most cost effective form of plugging failed heat exchanger tubes. Produced from high performance plastics, the plugs can withstand temperatures up to 150° C and pressures up to 300psig, and are suitable for a wide range of heat transfer fluids and gases.

The Problem.

One of the most common and irritating problems for the maintenance engineer is that of sealing failed heat exchanger tubes without causing damage to the surrounding tubes or tubeplate. Common methods of tube sealing include the use of tapered metallic plugs which are driven into the ends of the failed tubes. This process is not only unsafe and unreliable, but the plugs themselves can be extremely expensive due to their "made-to-order" nature.

The Solution.

The Dri-Seal Jiffi-plug Tube Sealing System solves all of these problems in one easy step. The use of strong yet flexible polymer and copolymer materials ensures that even eroded/corroded tubes can be sealed without causing any damage or deformation to the tubes or tubeplate ligaments.

The lack of complex mechanics within the sealing mechanism ensures that the Jiffi-Plug is both cost-effective to produce and simple to fit.

Materials.

The standard Dri-Seal Jiffi-Plug is produced from high performance Du Pont Hytrel and Acetal copolymer materials which have been selected for their temperature range and good chemical resistance. For information on the chemical resistance properties of the Dri-Seal Jiffi-Plug, please see our Chemical Resistance Guide.

The main body of the plug is produced from DuPont Hytrel, a high performance elastomer chosen for it’s wide chemical resistance and property retention at elevated temperatures. The fixing pin is produced from Acetal copolymer, again chosen for it’s chemical resistance and property retention characteristics at elevated temperatures. Please see our Material Characteristics Guide for more information.

Size Range.

The Dri-Seal range of Jiffi-Plugs currently covers most applications from 3/8" to 1" tube (outside diameter), with more being added all the time. Should the plug you require not be included in our plug availability list please contact us via our Contacts section for more information.

Plug Sizing.

To ensure optimum performance, the plugs are specifically matched to the tube outside diameter and gauge (wall thickness). Please be sure of the figures for your application when enquiring about plugs.

Dri-Seal Façade Tubeplate Protection System

The Dri-Seal Façade has been developed to enhance the longevity of new and existing shell & tube and air blast heat exchangers, and to reduce long-term repair costs and down time.. Used in conjunction with the Dri-Seal Tube Insert, the Façade is the most cost-effective method of protecting tubes and tubeplates from erosion and corrosion.

The Problem.

One of the most common points of heat exchanger failure occurs within the end channel at the inlet to the tube bundle. This is due primarily to the erosion or corrosion of the tube ends and tubeplate face. Where both factors are combined in one situation, failure can occur within a matter of weeks.

Tubeplates can also suffer cracked ligaments, resulting from either the over expansion of the tube ends, stresses caused by the insertion of tapered tube plugs or simply from wear and tear.

The Solution.

The Dri-Seal Tubeplate Protection System forms an impermeable barrier between the tubeplate / tube ends and the heat transfer medium. All systems consist of two primary components:-

  • The tubeplate façade, complete with a bonded non-porous backing is drilled to match the original tubeplate configuration

  • The tube insert, which has two important roles to play. Firstly it protects the tube ends from erosion and corrosion, and secondly, it’s secure fit within the tube end is used to fix the façade in place.

Uses.

The Dri-Seal Tubeplate Protection System can be used in old and new heat exchangers alike, imparting a new lease of life to the unit.

The Dri-Seal façade is available in two main forms for differing environmental conditions:-

  • The Armaguard metallic system utilises an effective interference fit design, and is available in a wide range of materials including copper-alloys and titanium.

  • The Plastiguard non-metallic system, incorporating the ClipLock design, is designed for use in corrosive environments such as chemical processing. The use of resistant plastic materials results in a more cost-effective solution to the more exotic materials available.

As the façade and inserts can be replaced as and when necessary, life extension could very well be indefinite.

Dri-Seal Tube Protection System

The Dri-Seal Tube Insert has been developed in conjunction with the Dri-Seal Façade to protect heat exchanger tube ends from erosion and corrosion. Tube Inserts can be used either on their own or in conjunction with the Dri-Seal Façade.

The problem.

As one of the common points of heat exchanger failure, the tube ends of the heat exchanger can suffer from severe erosion and corrosion (particularly so at the inlet end where turbulence is more pronounced) due to the heat transfer medium and any impurities contained within it.

The solution.

The simple yet effective Dri-Seal Tube Insert has been designed to form an impermeable barrier between the tube ends and heat transfer medium. Available in two main forms, the Armaguard metallic system, which uses an effective interference fit design, and the Plastiguard non-metallic system utilising the ClipLock design.

Uses.

The Dri-Seal Tube Insert System can be used in both new and old heat exchangers and can be tailored to suit the individual requirements of the host heat exchanger.

Materials.

The Armaguard metallic insert can be specified in a wide variety of materials depending upon the specific application, including titanium and copper alloys.

The Plastiguard non-metallic inserts are available in a high quality Nylon, although alternatives may be available dependent upon the quantities required.
